CHAMPS - POSITIE 2

CHAMPS - POSITION 2

Our second location for the day was the higher ground at the opposite side of Position 1. The little town of Champs is now in our back at the right side. In the little pine forest the men of A-Company 502nd PIR 101st AB were situated.

Captain Swanson, veteran of Able Company, visited this location a while ago with one of our team members. He indicated the line where he took position himself.

A grid search in the forest unearthed some cartridges, but not many. We found no major shrapnel or other interesting finds. This area could have been 'cleared' or did not have any significant action.
This position is however an outstanding observation point for the complete area. With a simple lamp a signal mirror the B-Company men could have been contacted on the slightly lower defense line (position 1). Position 2 was a location that just needed to be in Allied control.

Results of this fieldtrip:

Concluding we decided to clean up some of the bigger pieces of shrapnel as found at position 1 so these pieces can be presented to the veterans of the 502nd PIR 101st AB that made this research possible.
