Tot zo ver de beste tentoostelling op het gebied van 82nd en 101st Airborne paratroopers die ik heb gezien.
Michel de Trez opende zijn tijdelijke museum aan de rand van Ste Mere Eglise tijdens de herdenkingen van D-Day 2004. Een geweldige sfeer die direct vorm kreeg door de eerste display van een Paratrooper die op zijn bankje in een Dakota wacht op het rode licht van de invasiesprong. Stand Up, Hook Up... Green Light !

Er zijn nog meer 1:1 displays met een paar van de mooiste reconstructies die ik ooit zag.
De Parartrooper te paard, zo weggelopen van een foto uit Ste Mere Eglise of Carentan, Juni 1944.
Waar haalde hij dat paard vandaan ?

Een geweldig display met een buitgemaakt Duits Kettenkraftrad en een US Airborne Medic die het voertuig gebruikt.
Zo uit het nieuwe boek van de Trez over Doc McIlvoy.

Natuurlijk was de internationale pers aanwezig. De Trez verscheen met de 1:1 pop van Forrest Guth aan zijn zijde.
Forrest, corporaal in Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division, schonk al zijn uitrusting aan de Trez.

Maar Guth was ook zelf aanwezig op de tentoonstelling. Met zijn vrouw Harriet was hij zojuist ingevlogen !

Een erg indrukwekkende verzameling spullen die toebehoren aan Richard 'Dick' Winters, commandant van Easy Company en later Majoor binnen het 506de PIR.

Nog een laatste diorama met een mannequin van Colonel Benjamin Vandervoort. De Colonel loopt op krukken.

Ik hoop dat dit zeker niet de laatste keer was dat De Trez een deel van zijn verzameling tentoonstelde. Dergelijke topstukken dienen ook voor het grote publiek zichtbaar te zijn.
Gelet op de vele boeken die al zijn verschenen en de titels die nog in voorbereiding zijn hebben we goede hoop op een vervolg, Deze tentoonstelling was een mooie aanvulling op de oude en de nieuwe boeken van Michel de Trez !

By far the best public display on US Paratroopers I have seen so far. Michel de Trez opened this temporary Museum on the outskirts of Ste Mere Eglise for the D-Day commemorations period of 2004. An excellent display of 82nd and 101st Airborne Division uniforms and gear.
Goosebumps from the start as the trooper becomes visible, sitting in the Dakota, waiting for the invasion jump...

Inside lots of displays, and some of the best 1:1 scenes ever reconstructed; the famous picture of the US Paratrooper on horseback, as pictured in Ste Mere Eglise and Carentan in the beginning of June 1944, came to life. (Where did he get the horse ?).

Another display with a captured German Kettenkraftrad, and a US Airborne Medic using the vehicle, as displayed in De Trez's book on Doc McIlvoy and the Paratrooper Medics.

The press was there, and Michel de Trez himself embraced the 1:1 figurine of Forrest Guth (Corperal, Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st A/B).
The mannequin his been geared up with Forrest's original WW2 uniform and webbing !

But the Man was there himself ! Forrest Guth just flew in with his wife Harriet. Still going strong in his Eightees, he is a young soul !

Impressive, a collection of Gear that belong to Richard 'Dick' Winters, Easy Company's Commander and later Major within the 506th PIR

Another 1:1 scene with a Figurine of Colonel Benjamin Vandervoort on crutches taking my breath away. The momentum is there !

I for one hope this isn't the last time de Trez has taken some of his private collection on public display.
The new books are great, once again, and this Exhibit was an extra to the old and the new books presented...
