Een memorabele onderneming was het begeleiden van de Stephen Ambrose Band of Brothers Tour 2002. Met een groep Living History-beoefenaars trokken we in WW2 voertuigen naar Margraten, en later door naar de Ardennen. Om veteranen van Easy Company 506th PIR 101st Airborne van dichtbij mee te maken is bijzonder. Zeker als ze zo op elkaar ingespeeld zijn als Bill & Babe. Het was ook erg bijzonder om familieleden te ontmoeten van mannen die in Easy Company dienden.

Nabij Foy maakte ik een foto van John de Neef, één van de mannen die meer doet dan alleen Living History: hij sprong reeds vele malen in Paratrooper Uniform uit een vliegtuig met een parachute op de rug. Onder andere nabij La Fiere (Normandië), rond D-Day 2001. Toen John daar zo stond, de helm onder de arm geklemd, in M43 uniform, kon ik het niet laten hem te vergelijken met een man die minstens zoveel sprongen maakte, waarvan twee combat jumps. Links staat vervolgens de acteur die deze man gestalte gaf in de wereldberoemde TV-serie. De WW2 foto van Dick Winters is gemaakt bij de hoeve Schoonderlogt, in Nederland.

A most memorable event was the accompanying of the Stephen Ambrose Band of Brothers Tour 2002. With a combined Living History group we traveled to Margraten (US Cemetery) and continued to the Belgium Ardennes. To be in the mere presence of 506th PIR Easy Company veterans is special. Even more special if they are so attuned to each other like Bill & Babe. To meet family of men that once served in Easy Company was an honor for us.

Near Foy I took a picture of John de Neef, a man that takes Living History to another level: he has jumped out of 'a perfectly good airplane' in Paratrooper Uniform on several occasions. Amongst other jumps he participated in the 2001 D-Day La Fiere Memorial Jump (Normandy). When John posed for this picture in his M43 jumpsuit I couldn't help myself comparing him with a man that made at least as many jumps as John did. Including two combat jumps. On the left side in the picture you can see the actor who portrayed the veteran in the famous TV-series. The WW2 picture of Dick Winters was taken at the Schoonderlogt farmhouse in The Netherlands.

This website is dedicated to all Allied Paratroopers of World War Two. They became a 'Band of Brothers' who enlisted for a new type of warfare. They jumped into occupied Holland on Septmber 17th 1944 like Angels from the Sky. We will honor their heritage.
